If you have doubts about the procedure prior to booking an appointment, we’re here to help you! Our top Emsculpt Specialist answers the five most common questions that patients have before they seek Emsculpt treatment.Â
1. What exactly is Emsculpt treatment?Â
Emsculpt is a safe, FDA approved body sculpting procedure that works on the muscles of your body to firm them up and tighten them. A completely non-invasive procedure, it does not need any anesthesia, numbing, or even a tiny incision. The procedure merely consists of applying the Emsculpt machine to a targeted area for your body. Repeated Emsculpt treatment sessions can improve muscle tone, increase muscle mass, and even break down fat cells – giving you that lean, toned look that you have always dreamed of.Â
2. How does Emsculpt work?
The Emsculpt device works on high intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM). This stimulates the muscles in the target area of your body to contract, similar to when you exercise. However, muscle contractions induced by the Emsculpt device are more intense and at a much greater frequency than anything you could achieve with exercise; therefore you obviously see much faster results. A single, 30 minute Emsculpt session on your abs, for instance, is equivalent to at least 20,000 abdominal crunches!
Are these intense contractions harmful to your body? Not at all. Esthetic specialists report that the intense buzzing of the Emsculpt device, which induces muscle contractions, is broken up periodically by tapping sensations. This helps clear out unwanted lactic acid and other toxins that build up during muscle contractions.
3. How many sessions of Emsculpt will I need?Â
The number of sessions you need may vary, depending on your pre-treatment fat and muscle percentage, and what your ultimate fitness goals are. It is estimated that a single session of Emsculpt can shave at least 19% of fat off your target region, and improve muscle tone by 16%. Most doctors recommend at least four 30 minute sessions of Emsculpt, over the course of two weeks. You will probably feel the benefits of Emsculpt after just one session, although it will take longer to actually see visible results because the fat cells that are destroyed take time to be eliminated from the body. You will begin to see positive results about two to four weeks after your final session, and the results keep improving over time.Â
4. Is the Emsculpt procedure uncomfortable?Â
The Emsculpt procedure is associated with very minimal discomfort. While the comfort level does vary for each patient, most patients describe feeling a mild, tingling sensation. You will be able to feel your muscles contract, and this may be experienced as anything from mild contractions to a ‘gripping’ sensation. At no point, however, do you actually experience pain. After the procedure, you may experience a slight degree of soreness, similar to after an intense workout session, and most doctors advise to rest at home and avoid strenuous activities after the session. However, because the toxins are periodically cleared away, there are no dangers of ‘overexercising’.Â
5. Are you a good candidate for Emsculpt?Â
Emsculpt is ideal for you if you are looking for a non-invasive body shaping solution. If you are more or less near your ideal body weight, and are frustrated by saggy muscles or a stubborn pouch of fat in one area of your body, then you should consider Emsculpt. Emsculpt is the only body sculpting treatment currently available that targets muscle as well as fat. You should be aware that Emsculpt cannot help with major weight loss, it helps define your body as opposed to helping you actually lose weight.
6. What areas of the body can Emsculpt target?
The Emsculpt device is primarily designed to work on the abdomen, buttocks and arms. However, the manufacturers are coming up with new ways to accommodate the device in other areas of the body – so if you have saggy muscles in other areas, there may be an answer for you in the future!Â
7. Are there any contraindications to the Emsculpt procedure?Â
The FDA does not recommend Emsculpt for women who are pregnant; however, it is safe both before and after pregnancy. Since Emsculpt uses electromagnetic radiation, it must absolutely not be used if you have a pacemaker, an implanted defibrillator, or any metallic implants in your body. Doctors also recommend avoiding this procedure if you have any heart condition, a history of seizures, or have a hernia or surgery in the part of your body that you need to be treated.Â
