Is Botox really as safe as we think it is?
Botox is a highly popular choice for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles and it is generally considered to be safe and very well tolerated. To make sure that you receive the correct amount of Botox and it is administered in the right area, you should always have your procedure carried out by a qualified medical professional. The safety of your treatment can not be guaranteed if you choose to have it performed by somebody who is not qualified just to save a few dollars. If you do seek treatment from somebody without the correct qualifications, then you run the risk of muscle drooping, asymmetrical results and frozen expressions.
Botox treatment is not recommended if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because there is no research data available to determine the safety of Botox in these situations.
What are the dangers of Botox?
There are some side effects that are associated with Botox treatment and these include:
- Flu-like symptoms
- Bruising at the injection site
- A temporary drooping or weakness of your facial features, for example, eyelid droopiness can occur if the Botox moves across into this area (this usually resolves within 3 weeks)
- Too frequent injections may lead to your body becoming resistant to Botox treatment – this occurs as the body develops toxin-blocking antibodies in response to treatment
The risk of side effects is minimal if your treatment has been carried out correctly. Any adverse effects that do occur are likely to be mild and short-lived.
Very rarely, the Botulinum toxin, which is the active ingredient of Botox injections, can migrate beyond the injected area. This can cause systemic Botulism-like symptoms, such as breathing problems, muscle weakness, slurred speech and trouble swallowing.
Is Botox toxic?
Many patients run scared when they hear that the active ingredient of Botox injections is a neurotoxin. However, in cosmetic treatments, the Botulinum toxin is used in very minute doses. Reassuringly, the safe use of Botox within the cosmetic industry is supported by multiple research studies.
Choosing the best provider for your treatment is key. An experienced, qualified medical professional will know exactly how to control your Botox dosage, treatment site and frequency in order to achieve great results with minimal risk.

Can Botox be used to get rid of forehead wrinkles?
Are you frustrated with your stubborn forehead wrinkles? These lines can age our face dramatically and often make us look grumpy regardless of how we are actually feeling! Don’t worry, Botox is one of the best options for eliminating the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead area. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing your muscles, which helps to smooth out persistent wrinkles. Wrinkles that are caused by muscle movement, known as dynamic wrinkles, will therefore respond to Botox treatment. Static wrinkles, or those present when your face is at rest, are best treated with dermal face fillers.

Light Botox in the forehead
Light Botox treatment, which is commonly known as ‘Baby Botox’, uses small volumes of Botox to achieve softer and more natural-looking results. Treatment typically uses 10 units of Botulinum toxin instead of the 25 units used in traditional Botox treatment. Baby Botox is suitable for those of us who wish to soften our fine lines and wrinkles, without completely eliminating muscle movement and losing facial expressions.
As Baby Botox uses much smaller volumes of product, your treatment provider must be very precise about the area in which the injection is administered, so that you are still able to achieve great results. Compared to standard size Botox injections, the risks associated with Baby Botox are significantly lower.
Baby Botox can be used in all of the areas where you would receive traditional Botox injections. It can provide great results on forehead wrinkles and frown lines, without giving you a frozen look! Baby Botox is not suitable for deeper wrinkles.
Do men get Botox?
The fast pace of modern life can leave us looking older than we actually are. This means that more men than ever before are turning to Botox to turn back the clock and help them appear younger. An experienced and highly skilled physician can provide men with visible results, without it being obvious that they have received any cosmetic treatment.
Anybody who is in generally good health, with stubborn fine lines and wrinkles is a good candidate for Botox treatment. Gender is not an issue.
How long do the results of Botox last?
Botox injections only offer a temporary solution for your fine lines and wrinkles, and so you will need to repeat your treatment regularly to maintain your excellent results.
The effects of Botox typically last somewhere between 3 to 6 months. After this time, movement slowly begins to return to the treated muscle and lines start to resurface.
If you have regular Botox injections, you may notice that your wrinkles begin to soften over time. This is because regular administration of Botox can cause your muscles in the treated area to permanently shrink a little bit.
Can you stop Botox once you start?
A common belief about Botox is that once you start using it, you won’t be able to stop. The truth is that if you stop your treatment, your wrinkles will just return to their original appearance, once your Botox injections have worn off. Your wrinkles will not worsen if you discontinue your Botox. Patients who claim that their lines have worsened after stopping Botox, have probably just forgotten what they looked like before treatment!
How much does Botox cost?
The cost of Botox varies depending upon your location, treatment provider and the number of injections that you require. Your physician will be able to discuss costs with you in detail at your initial consultation.
